Easter 2012

Dear Ella,

This year, your Nana and Papa came to Yuma to celebrate Easter with you.  Your Nana brought you a cute Easter bucket that had candy, toys, and a cute little gardening set.  You still like to play with the Easter bucket your Nana brought you.  Brandt Adams was also in town for Jonas Moore's mission farewell, so you got to spend Easter with family and friends.  On Saturday night, you and your Papa decorated eggs together.  This was your first time decorating eggs, and you were eager to get started.

I also learned something about your Daddy's Easter traditions.  I only hard-boiled six eggs because I knew you would be the only one decorating them and hunting for them.  When your dad saw the eggs he said, "That's it?  Why did you only make six eggs?"  I explained my reasoning, but the puzzled look never left his face.  Then your Nana arrived, and she said, "You only made six eggs?"  I again explained why I only made six eggs, and she said, "I usually make about three dozen eggs."  Well, no wonder your Dad was so confused.  I guess there's still a few things I need to learn about the Griffiths' traditions.  You did have so much fun decorating your six eggs.  It was perfect because there were six different die colors, so we were able to leave them in the cups for a long time to let them get nice and bright.

After you decorated the eggs, we went out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants Hunter's Steakhouse.  Unfortunately, you and Charlie were both very tired and cranky while we were eating dinner.  Your Dad felt bad for the other people in the restaurant and decided to take you home and put you to bed.

The next morning was Easter Sunday.  Our church starts at 9:00am this year, so we decided to do the Easter egg hunt after church.  I didn't think about it until after I hid the eggs, but I probably should have hid them outside because it would have made for prettier pictures.  You had fun finding the eggs anyway.

I bought you this Easter bucket and had your name put on it.

It was so nice of your Nana and Papa to come and spend Easter with you.  Your Nana has always been a good example to me of making the holidays special, and I hope to follow in her footsteps.

Although we had fun decorating and hunting for eggs, I want to share with you the real reason that we have Easter.  Easter is a time to remember the life, death, and resurrection of our Savior.  He lived his life as an example to us so that we could know how to live our lives.  He suffered in a way that I will never understand so that we could repent of our sins and return to live with our Father in Heaven.  I know that our Savior was resurrected and that he lives today.  He lives and loves you.  I hope that you will grow to have a relationship with him so that you will be grateful for all of the things he has done for you.  I know that my Savior loves me, and I love him too.  My love for you helps me to understand the love that my Father in Heaven has for me.

Sincerely,
Mom
